Biographical Sketch of Dr. Sushil Kotru

Dr. Sushil Kotru, an eminent endocrinologist born in peaceful Kashmir, had to pass through the trauma of migration from Kashmir in his childhood. Inspite of the instability, he strived hard & cleared his MBBS with flying colours. Born to Kashmiri pandit parents, he has a natural instinct for perfection. A very hardworking & intelligent student, he was extremely popular both among his classmates & professors. After completion of his MD, he worked as a senior resident in Cardiology unit in Escorts Heart Institute & had a good experience while working there. But destiny had something else ready for him. He started his own clinic very early in his professional career & was exposed to a wide variety of patients but the profile of diabetic patients attracted him the most. Soon he started working in the field of Diabetes & enrolled himself in reputed distance learning programmes & courses on Diabetes. He earned a good name working as a Diabetologist both among his patients & compatriots. As he had an urge to be in a teaching institute, he joined Adesh Institute of Medical Sciences in Bathinda as an Assistant Professor & set up his own Diabetes & Obesity Care unit under the Department of Medicine, AIMSR, Bathinda.

He had a good exposure of both urban & rural population suffering from diabetes. He introduced the concept of education & counselling the illiterate rural population by organizing diabetes awareness & detection camps & programmes. He made them understand the complications of Diabetes & benefits of good glycemic control by following proper diet, exercise & medical treatment . He was the first person to introduce Diabetes footcare clinic in Punjab having facilities of educating people for care of feet, basic evaluation of foot problems, advanced foot debridement and treatment modalities & provision of customized footware to prevent diabetes foot complications and amputations. Today he is working with MAX superspeciality Hospital in Bathinda & catering to both rural and urban population within vicinity of 200 kms . Today he is considered an expert in his field & has extended his learning beyond Diabetes. After completing the fellowship from CMC Vellore & PG Diploma and Masters in Endocrinology from UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH WALES, UK, he is now an eminent Endocrinologist in this region. He have also done fellowship in Diabetes Footcare Course .

He has won 1st Prize for Poster Presentation at National Diabetes Foot Conference PGI, Chandigarh (DFSICON). He has also received Diabtes Awareness initiative award from World Diabetes Congress at New Delhi for spreading Diabetes awareness in Northern India.

1. Investigator in LANDMARC Study (Longitudinal Nationwide Study on Management and Real-World Outcomes of Diabetes in India), conducted by Sanofi group. Longitudinal Nationwide study on Management And Real-world outcomes of diabetes in India (LANDMARC study) aimed to understand the micro- and macrovascular complications, glycemic control, and time to treatment adaptation in Indian subjects with T2DM over a follow-up period of 3 years. LANDMARC (CTRI/2017/05/008452) is the first pan-India, prospective, multicenter, observational, and longitudinal study of subjects with T2DM.

2. Investigator in IDMPS Study (International Diabetes Management Practices Study), conducted by Sanofi group.

3. Co-Investigator in a study “Pharmacogenetics of SGLT2 inhibitors”, conducted by Central University of Punjab.
